Using a Tripod

How to frame yourself on a Smartphone using a Tripod. Make sure your phone is in a landscape position. Put the tripod on the floor or a table and raise the level of the phone to eye level. You can sit or stand - whichever is easiest to get into position and you feel most comfortable presenting in.

Smartphone

How to position yourself on screen if recording with a Smartphone.

If using a Smartphone you need to support your phone (don’t hold it in your hand) and have it in landscape (horizontal) orientation like in the pictures.

If you have a Tripod please use that – if not support it at the back with something vertical and sturdy like – A wall, a stack of books, a box etc.

You’ll ideally need to raise the phone to eye level – please don’t put the phone flat on a desk and look down into it.

Desktop, Laptop and Tablet

How to position yourself on screen if recording with a Desktop Computer, Laptop or Tablet.

Have all your upper body in shot, look as straight on as possible (raise and/or tilt your screen slightly to be eye-level with camera) and leave spacing around your head and body as in the pictures.

How you should be framed on the screen using a Desktop Computer.
How you should be framed on the screen using a Laptop. You might need to put something underneath the laptop on top of the desk to raise it to eye level or tilt the screen slightly back. Don't tilt the screen too far back though - it's better the have the laptop higher up.
How you should be framed on the screen using a Tablet. If you have a stand use that. Have the camera eye level. If you have no stand then lean the tablet against something vertical and solid like a wall, pile of books or a box.
